This curriculum aims to engage, inspire, and challenge pupils, equipping them with knowledge and skills to experiment, invent, and create their own works of art.

Key Stage 2 Focus: Building upon Key Stage 1, Year 3 emphasizes further development of skills in drawing, painting, printing, and sculpture using various materials. Pupils explore ideas, record experiences, and become proficient in evaluating and analyzing creative works using appropriate terminology. They learn about a range of artists, craftspeople and designers, and understand the historical and cultural development of art forms.

Specific Skills Development:

  • Drawing: Pupils develop observational drawing skills, focusing on portraits and using pencils to create different grades.
  • Painting: Exploring different painting techniques, including Impressionism, and understanding color theory, warm and cool colors, tints, and shades.
  • Printing: Learning about the printmaking process and creating unique prints.
  • Sculpture: Using clay and other materials to create three-dimensional artworks.
  • Digital Media: Creating digital artworks, collecting images for inspiration, and using software to manipulate and enhance their creations.
  • Collage and Mixed Media: Experimenting with various materials and techniques to create mixed media artwork, including collage and symbolism.
  • Art History and Appreciation: Studying Renaissance art, cityscape art, and other art movements and artists to develop an understanding of art history and cultural contexts.

This curriculum encourages pupils to explore their creativity, develop technical skills, and appreciate the rich history and diversity of art and design.
