United Kingdom Year 3 National Curriculum - History
This curriculum builds upon the concepts of monarchy and democracy introduced in earlier years, and introduces the concepts of civilization and migration. Teachers are encouraged to make local connections where appropriate. The curriculum aims to provide a chronologically secure knowledge and understanding of British, local and world history.
Key Stage 2 history helps pupils understand the complexity of people’s lives, the process of change, the diversity of societies and relationships between different groups of people. It covers a range of topics including:
- Changes in Britain from the Stone Age to the Iron Age: This topic explores the major changes in British society and technology during these periods.
- The Roman Empire and its impact on Britain: This topic examines the Roman Empire, its influence on Britain, and the lasting impact of Roman civilization.
- Britain's settlement by Anglo-Saxons and Scots: This topic covers the arrival and settlement of the Anglo-Saxons and Scots in Britain, and the development of their societies. Additional topics may be included at the school's discretion.
