Social Studies (11th Grade)
This course explores major themes in human history and social organization, focusing on US History, World History, Government/Civics, and Economics.
US History
This course typically covers US History from the late 19th century to the present day. Key topics include industrialization, the Progressive Era, World War I, the Roaring Twenties, the Great Depression, World War II, the Cold War, the Civil Rights Movement, and contemporary issues. Some courses may cover earlier periods, such as Colonial Foundations, the American Revolution, the Building of a Nation, Sectionalism and the Civil War, and Reconstruction.
World History
This course examines major turning points in world history, often focusing on the modern era. Key themes include the interaction of humans and their environment, the development of cultures, political systems, social organization, technological advancements, and interactions between societies.
Government/Civics
This course introduces students to the foundations of American democracy and the workings of the US federal government. Topics include the Constitution, the three branches of government, civil liberties and rights, citizenship, and the role of citizens in a democracy. Understanding how government works is a key aspect of this course.
Economics
This course introduces students to basic economic principles, including scarcity, opportunity cost, supply and demand, market systems, and economic decision-making. Students learn how economic concepts impact their daily lives and explore topics such as personal finance, microeconomics, and macroeconomics. |
