United States 4th Grade Social Studies Curriculum
This curriculum introduces students to geographic, economic, and governmental concepts through the lens of the United States. It builds upon previous learning and further develops skills in analyzing primary and secondary sources.
Geography
Fourth grade geography focuses on the United States. Students learn about the different geographic regions of the United States, typically divided into four regions: Northeast, South, Midwest, and West. They study maps, landforms, climate regions, and the locations of states and their capitals. The curriculum may also cover the routes of early American explorers.
History
Fourth grade history often covers early United States history, starting with Native American civilizations and continuing through European exploration and colonization, and the American Revolution. Students learn to analyze historical perspectives using primary and secondary sources. Some curricula may also cover events up to World War II.
Civics and Government
This section introduces students to the structure and functions of government in the United States. They learn about the roles and responsibilities of citizens and how the government serves them. Topics covered may include the Constitution, the Bill of Rights, and the branches of government.
Economics
Fourth grade economics introduces basic economic principles. Students learn about different economic systems, production, consumption, and the exchange of goods and services. They may also explore topics such as supply and demand, markets, and personal finance. |
