Uzbekistan First Grade Curriculum - Mathematics

The information available on the Uzbekistan First Grade Mathematics Curriculum is limited. However, based on the available resources, the following can be summarized:

Curriculum Development and Implementation:

New textbooks and teacher guides for first and second grade were developed for the 2021/2022 academic year as part of implementing the national curriculum. The Ministry of Public Education, in partnership with USAID, embarked on developing student textbooks and scope and sequence. Almost 500,000 Uzbek Language Arts and Mathematics books were provided for grades 1-4. The development of student learning standards and scope and sequence aimed to improve mathematics instruction and strengthen mathematical concepts in early primary students.

Learning Objectives and Assessment:

While specific learning objectives for the first grade are not readily available, national surveys were conducted to assess reading and math skills of students in grades 2 and 4. These assessments were conducted in seven languages of instruction. A study on learning levels among primary school children was also carried out. The process of revising student standards for grades 1-4 in mathematics was led by Florida State University and UEEP.

General Primary Education Context:

Primary education in Uzbekistan lasts for four years, for children between the ages of 6 and 10. The curriculum includes subjects such as Uzbek language and literature, mathematics, natural sciences, and physical education. Some schools, like the Tashkent International School, offer the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program. Other international schools offer a range of subjects including English, math, science, history, geography, ICT, languages, music, art and design, PE, drama, and PSHE.
