Uzbekistan Grade 5 Physical Education Curriculum

According to the Ministry of Public Education of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the physical education curriculum for primary school students, including grade 5, consists of 2 hours per week, totaling 68 hours per year. The curriculum includes gymnastics, athletics, movement games, and elements of sports such as basketball, volleyball, handball, football, and chess.

Curriculum Requirements:

The curriculum emphasizes the development of several competencies:

  • Following instructions: Students should be able to follow the rules of activities, morning exercises, and classroom procedures.
  • Physical activity: Students should be able to perform morning exercises and participate actively in physical education lessons.
  • Game rules: Students should understand the rules of various mobile games and chess.
  • Health awareness: Students should be aware of the positive effects of exercise on health.
  • Movement skills: Students should be able to perform a sequence of exercises involving rowing, acrobatics, pole vault, balance storage, leaning, hanging, and climbing.
  • Physical qualities: Students should develop agility, strength, speed, flexibility, endurance, and coordination.
  • Logical thinking: Students should be able to play logic games like chess and checkers.
  • Safety awareness: Students should understand and follow safety rules to prevent injuries during exercise.
  • Health monitoring: Students should be able to determine their heart rate before and after exercise.
  • Technical safety: Students should follow technical safety rules during exercise.

Lesson Structure:

Physical education lessons typically consist of three parts:

1. Preparatory part (8-12 minutes): Prepares students for the main activities of the lesson. 2. Main part (25-30 minutes): Focuses on teaching new exercises, reviewing previously learned exercises, and imparting theoretical knowledge. This part may include various activities from the curriculum sections (gymnastics, athletics, movement games, elements of sports games, chess). 3. Final part (3-5 minutes): Cools down students with light exercises, provides feedback and assessment, and assigns homework if necessary.

Lesson Types:

Physical education classes are diversified according to pedagogical objectives and can include:

  • Introductory lessons: Held at the beginning of a new semester or section.
  • Lessons of new materials: Focus on introducing new skills and concepts.
  • Mixed lessons: Combine elements of explanation, teaching, mastery, reinforcement, and improvement.
  • Reinforcement and refinement lessons: Focus on perfecting previously learned skills.
  • Control lessons: Assess students' knowledge and skills.
  • Final lessons: Conclude a semester or school year.

Classes can also vary in the nature of their organization:

  • Accented classes: Focus on a specific section of the curriculum (e.g., gymnastics, athletics).
  • Mixed classes: Cover multiple sections of the curriculum.
  • Complex classes: Combine several subjects within one lesson (e.g., volleyball, athletics, wrestling).
