Venezuela Educación Media Diversificada - Bachiller en Ciencias
The Bachiller en Ciencias is the culmination of Venezuela's Educación Media Diversificada, the equivalent of upper secondary education (grades 10-11). It precedes higher education and follows nine years of Educación Básica (basic education). The Bachiller en Ciencias (Science Baccalaureate) prepares students for university studies, particularly in STEM fields. It emphasizes fundamental scientific principles, laws, and concepts across various disciplines.
Curriculum
The Educación Media Diversificada curriculum has undergone revisions. A proposed curriculum for the 2017-2018 school year outlined specific areas of study. More recently, the Ministry of Education aimed to implement a new curriculum for the 2023-2024 school year. This new design has faced challenges due to teacher shortages and lack of resources.
Structure and Levels
Venezuelan basic education is divided into initial, primary, and middle school levels, culminating in the Bachiller degree upon completion of Educación Media Diversificada. Educación Media Diversificada is considered the third level of the Venezuelan education system, bridging basic and higher education. It is administratively and curricularly linked to both preceding and succeeding levels. University studies are categorized into eight areas of knowledge, including basic sciences, engineering, architecture, technology, agricultural and marine sciences. |
