Vietnam Grade 12 Mathematics

This outlines the topics covered in Grade 12 Mathematics in Vietnam, based on the FutureSchool curriculum.

Statistics

  • Calculating mean, mode and median from grouped data: Identifying class centers, frequency counts, and determining mean and mode values.
  • Range as a measure of dispersion: Determining the range and using it in decision making.
  • Measures of spread: Finding the standard deviation using a data set or a frequency distribution table and calculator.
  • Standard deviation applications: Using standard deviation as a measure of deviation from a mean.
  • Normal distribution: Using the standard deviation of a normal distribution to find the percentage of scores within ranges.
  • Measures of spread: the interquartile range: Finding the upper and lower quartiles and the interquartile range.
  • Scatter Diagrams: Constructing scatter plots and drawing conclusions from them.

Measurement

  • Area of regular polygons and composite figures: Calculating the area of different shapes by applying the appropriate formula.
  • Composite solids: Dissecting composite solids into simpler shapes to calculate volume, calculating the volume of various composite solids, and using formulas appropriately.
  • Surface area of a cylinder and sphere: Calculating the surface area of cylindrical and spherical shapes using the appropriate formula.
  • Surface area of cones: Finding the surface area of cones by finding the area of the base and the curved surface. Finding the slant height given the perpendicular height.
  • Surface area of composite solids: Finding the surface area of composite solids.

Trigonometry

  • The cosine rule to find an unknown side (SAS): Using the cosine rule to find the length of an unknown side of a triangle knowing two sides and the included angle.
  • The cosine rule to find an unknown angle (SSS): Finding the size of an unknown angle of a triangle using the cosine rule given the lengths of the three sides.
  • The sine rule to find an unknown side: Using the sine rule to find the length of a particular side when given the sizes of two angles and one side.
  • The sine rule to find an unknown angle: Using the sine rule to find an unknown angle when given two sides and a non-included angle.
  • The area formula: Using the sine formula for finding the area of a triangle given two sides and the included angle.

Probability

  • Tree diagrams – not depending on previous outcomes: Drawing tree diagrams to list outcomes of a multi-stage probability problem and finding probabilities of events not depending on previous outcomes.
  • Tree diagrams – depending on previous outcomes: Drawing tree diagrams to list outcomes of multi-stage probability problems and finding probabilities of events depending on previous outcomes.
  • Counting techniques and ordered selections – permutations: Using counting techniques for solving probability.
  • Unordered selections – combinations: Using the combination formula (nCr) with and without a calculator to solve probability problems involving unordered selections.

Algebra

  • Changing the subject of the formula: Moving pronumerals around an equation using previously covered rules and operations.
  • Solve by graphing: Using the slope-intercept form of a line to create graphs and find points of intersection.
