Experience Activities - Vietnam Grade 4
Experience Activities are a key part of the Vietnamese primary school curriculum. The curriculum focuses on experiential learning and aims to develop well-rounded individuals. The program includes four main content threads for Grade 4:
- Self-directed Activities: These activities focus on personal development and self-discovery.
- Social-directed Activities: These activities encourage students to interact with their community and develop social skills.
- Nature-directed Activities: These activities connect students with the natural world and promote environmental awareness.
- Career-oriented Activities: These activities introduce students to different career paths and help them explore their interests.
Learning Materials and Organization
Learning materials for Experience Activities include those assessed by the National Council and issued by the Ministry of Education and Training, as well as locally developed content integrated under the Ministry's guidance.
A total of 105 lessons per year are allocated for Experience Activities, divided as follows:
- Flag Salute: 35 lessons (school level)
- Class Activities: 35 lessons (class level)
- Thematic Experiential Activities/Club Activities: 35 lessons (class level or smaller groups)
Schools are also encouraged to organize out-of-school experiential activities when possible, ensuring educational goals and student safety. Additional optional club activities can be conducted outside school hours. The organization of activities often involves collaboration between teachers, school staff, parents, and community organizations.
Perspectives on Program Development
The Experience Activities program is developed based on several learning theories, including activity theory, personality theory, experiential learning theory, and general educational theory. It also draws on existing extracurricular activities, career orientation activities, and international best practices. The program emphasizes:
- Integrity and Continuity: The program ensures a consistent and progressive learning experience across grade levels, with unified activity content strands.
- Openness and Flexibility: Schools and teachers have the flexibility to adapt the content, methods, and scheduling of activities to suit their specific context, while still meeting the overall educational goals.
