Vietnam Grade 6 Biology Curriculum

This curriculum is based on the Vietnamese Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) standards. Biology is typically introduced as a separate subject starting in Grade 6, as part of the Natural Science curriculum. In some international schools, the Vietnamese curriculum is blended with other curricula, such as the US curriculum.

Key Topics and Concepts:

  • Plants: Grade 6 Biology focuses heavily on plants. This includes the study of plant structure, function, reproduction, and their role in the ecosystem.
  • Cells: The curriculum covers an overview of cells as the basic unit of life. This may include the different types of cells and their components.
  • Environmental Knowledge and Sustainable Development: The curriculum integrates environmental knowledge and sustainable development goals.

Experiential Learning:

Experiential learning is a key component of the Biology curriculum. Students participate in hands-on activities and experiments to reinforce their understanding of biological concepts. Examples include:

  • Growing plants: Students may grow and observe plants to learn about plant life cycles and growth requirements.
  • Field trips: Field trips to natural environments allow students to observe plants and other organisms in their natural habitats.
  • Laboratory experiments: Students may conduct experiments to investigate biological processes, such as photosynthesis or respiration.

Natural Science Integration:

Biology is taught as part of the Natural Science curriculum, which also includes Physics and Chemistry. This integrated approach helps students understand the interconnectedness of different scientific disciplines. Starting from 2021, Natural Science is taught in grade 6 with the aim of developing scientific competency and literacy.
