Yemen Fifth Grade Curriculum - English
This curriculum is based on the Crescent English Course Pupil's Book 5 and Workbook 5, published by Garner Publishing Limited and the Ministry of Education of Yemen. The course aims to develop English language skills through a variety of topics and activities.
Unit 1: What Do You Remember?
This unit focuses on describing holidays, people, and objects. Students learn vocabulary related to these topics and practice using adjectives in the correct order. They also practice asking for information in a department store setting. The unit includes a short story about a London schoolboy named Barry Jones.
Unit 2: Serving the People
This unit explores different public service jobs, including traffic police, immigration officers, helicopter pilots, and firefighters. Students learn about the responsibilities of each job and the importance of being polite. The unit also covers fire safety and rescue procedures.
Unit 3: The United Kingdom
This unit introduces students to the United Kingdom, covering facts and figures, historical information, and cultural traditions. Students learn about Queen Victoria, changes in daily life during her reign, and famous tourist sights like the Tower of London. The unit also covers the cheese-rolling race, a unique English tradition.
Unit 4: English-Speaking Countries
This unit explores different English-speaking countries around the world, including Australia, India, East Africa, Canada, and the USA. Students learn about the culture, geography, and history of each country. The unit also highlights the importance of English as a global language.
Unit 5: Yemen - Future Developments
This unit focuses on Yemen and its potential for future development, particularly in the tourism sector. Students discuss the benefits and challenges of tourism, exploring different perspectives. The unit also includes personal essays about students' dreams for the future.
