Zambia Grade 11 Computer Studies Syllabus

This syllabus aims to equip learners with the necessary knowledge and skills for problem-solving using computing techniques and programming, and to develop awareness of the relevance of computing in contemporary society. It fosters a desire to use computers within other professions and prepares learners for further education and lifelong learning in this dynamic field.

Topics Covered:

• Programming and Pseudocode Algorithms: This topic introduces programming terminology, algorithm development using pseudocode, various structures like loops and decision-making, and the use of dry runs with trace tables for code understanding.
• Logic Gates, Circuits, and Website Designing: Learners will define the functions of logic gates, create truth tables, design simple logic circuits, and gain an introduction to website design using templates, importing text and pictures, and basic animation.
• Networks and Data Communication: This section covers computer networks, data communication, network purposes and limitations, elements of networking, network types and topologies, data capture and checking, data protection legislation, computer crime, computer viruses, internet security, and recent developments in internet usage.
• Computer Systems: Learners will distinguish between different types of computer systems, understand the needs of various systems, explore automation and robotics applications, learn about expert systems and artificial intelligence, and understand the management of computer systems.
• Databases: This topic focuses on database design, relationships between data, data entry and editing, table redesigning, and other database management tasks.
• Social and Economic Implications of Computer Use: This section explores the effects of computer use on people and organizations, data integrity and privacy maintenance, data protection legislation, threats to computer security, and measures to combat them.
• Specific Computer Applications: Learners will examine the use of computers in various fields like education, health, banking, retailing, library systems, office automation, commercial and general data processing.
