Zambia Grade 11 Religious Education Syllabus

This syllabus outlines the topics covered in the Grade 11 Religious Education course. The course is divided into two parts: Part One focuses on themes from the Gospels (based on the Gospel of Luke), and Part Two focuses on themes of Christian Witness and behavior.

Part One: Themes from the Gospels (Based on the Gospel of Luke)

  • Judgement: This unit explores the meaning of judgement, Christian teachings about Christ's return, and personal judgement according to the four major religions in Zambia (Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, and Indigenous Zambian beliefs).
  • Prayer: This unit covers the meaning of prayer, Christian patterns of prayer, Christ's attitude to prayer, how God answers prayer, and prayer in Christianity and other religions.
  • Jesus' Attitude to People: This unit examines Jesus' attitude towards despised and unpopular people, teachings on kindness and selfishness, forgiveness, love, and tolerance, comparing Christian teachings with other religions.
  • Suffering: This unit explores different types of suffering, sources of suffering, avoidable suffering (including HIV/AIDS), the effects of suffering, God's involvement in suffering, Jesus' willingness to suffer, and Christian willingness to suffer compared with other religions.
  • Opposition to Jesus: This unit covers reactions to criticism and opposition, occasions when Jesus was criticized, the betrayal and arrest of Jesus, the trials of Jesus, Jesus' teachings about opposition, and reactions to persecution and opposition in Christianity and other religions.
  • The Last Supper and the Crucifixion: This unit examines reactions to bereavement, the Lord's Supper, the crucifixion and death of Jesus, New Testament teachings about the significance of Jesus' death, and how Christ's death affects Christians today.
  • Jesus' Triumph Over Death: This unit explores ideas about life after death, Jesus raising people from the dead, the resurrection of Jesus, the meaning of Christ's resurrection, what Christians believe about life after death, and beliefs about life after death in Christianity and other religions.

Part Two: Themes on Christian Witness and Behavior

This part of the syllabus is covered in Grade 12. It includes topics such as the early church, Christian witness, life in the early church, Christian attitudes to work, leisure, money and possessions, leadership, sex and marriage, husband and wife relationships, and relationships between parents and children.
