  • Develop clear mathematical thinking and expression.
  • Enhance mathematical knowledge and skills for further study.
  • Foster an appreciation of mathematical concepts for problem-solving in everyday life.
  • Enable learners to represent, interpret, and use data effectively.

Key Competences

Students are expected to develop the following key competencies:

  • Apply mathematical concepts to real-world situations.
  • Utilize problem-solving skills effectively.
  • Demonstrate creativity and imagination in mathematical thinking.
  • Develop logical reasoning and communication skills.

  • Utilize technology in mathematical learning.
  • Appreciate the enjoyment and pleasure of mathematics.
  • Understand algebra, geometry, measurements, and shapes.

Grade 12 Topics

  • Vectors in Two Dimensions: Defining vectors, vector notation, vector operations (addition, subtraction, scalar multiplication), position vectors, unit vectors, scalar (dot) product, and vector equations of lines.
  • Statistics: Measures of dispersion (range, quartiles, percentiles, interquartile range, mean, variance, standard deviation), cumulative frequency tables and curves.

Assessment

Assessment comprises school-based assessments (tests, assignments, projects) and a final examination conducted by the Examinations Council of Zambia. School-based assessments contribute to the final certification. Seven 40-minute periods per week are allocated for the subject.
