Zambia Grade 3 Creative and Technology Studies
This course integrates several components: Design and Technology, Expressive Arts, Home Economics, and Information and Communication Technology. It aims to equip learners with practical skills, foster creativity, and promote self-expression.
Design and Technology
This component focuses on applying knowledge and available resources to develop practical solutions to problems. Learners identify problems and develop solutions through a hands-on approach.
Expressive Arts
This component combines Physical Education, Music, Art, and Design. It emphasizes developing practical skills, enhancing talents, fostering creativity, and encouraging self-expression.
Home Economics
This component prepares learners for self-sufficiency and life skills. They acquire practical skills and knowledge in areas such as needlework and crafts. For Grades 3 and 4, the focus is on temporal stitches (tacking, running) for small articles like fringed mats and table napkins, using materials such as binca, canvas, felt, hessian, and calico. Crewel or tapestry needles and wool or double filosheen thread are recommended.
Information and Communication Technology (ICT)
This component equips learners with the skills and knowledge to access and work with various forms of information and data. They learn about ICT devices and their components, and develop basic computer skills. In Grade 3, learners work with the mouse, practice typing, and learn about cell phone usage.
Specific Learning Outcomes for Grade 3
- Tools: Apply basic tools like saws and hacksaws to cut materials.
- Materials: Design and make items from local materials such as clay and grass.
- Posture: Explore and demonstrate correct postural habits.
- Drawing and Colouring: Draw pictures based on life experiences and events, and colour scenes based on own experiences.
- Safety and Health: Compose songs on safety and demonstrate classroom safety practices.
- Patterns: Identify natural objects and print different types of patterns.
- Movement: Demonstrate fundamental movements using correct techniques and perform simple adaptive movements.
- Hardware: Drag items in Microsoft Word and icons on the desktop.
- Typing: Demonstrate basic typing skills with numbers, words, sentences, and short paragraphs.
- Food: Identify different meals eaten in a day and foods that can be preserved. Dry raw vegetables.
- Sound: Identify different elements of sound and sing a variety of songs using local instruments.
- Educational Gymnastics: Perform simple landing activities and demonstrate simple pyramid formations.
- Health and Fitness Management: Demonstrate simple isometric activities and perform simple developmental activities.
- Energy: Identify external parts of a dry cell and use dry cells to light a bulb.
- Cell Phones: Demonstrate the ability to use a cell phone.
- Needlework: Explain rules for working out stitches and work out temporal stitches.
- Recreation: Perform local dances with simple rhythm and perform games with messages of child abuse.
- Sports Skills Development: Perform a variety of modified conventional games, track and field events, and traditional games.
- Constructional Crafts: Knot various items.
- Swimming: Demonstrate pool hygiene activities and a variety of basic strokes. Perform simple water games and pair water games with balls.
- Entrepreneurship: Identify types of businesses in the community.
