Zimbabwe Form 3 Guidance And Counseling Syllabus
This syllabus covers Guidance and Counseling for Form 3 students in Zimbabwean secondary schools. It comprises six main topics, focusing on personal development, life skills, and responsible citizenship. The curriculum employs learner-centered, hands-on, multicultural, and interactive approaches, promoting critical thinking and practical application of concepts. Four 40-minute periods per week are allocated to this subject, with two educational tours recommended annually.
1. Unhu/Ubuntu/Vumunhu (Norms and Values), Beliefs and Citizenship
This topic emphasizes the importance of cultural values, beliefs, and responsible citizenship. Form 3 students explore grooming, etiquette, self-image, self-esteem, respect, tolerance, and the concept of citizenship.
2. Relationships
This section focuses on developing healthy relationships and managing conflict. Students learn about communication in relationships, conflict management, and peer pressure.
3. Health
This topic covers various aspects of health, including personal and environmental hygiene, sexual and reproductive health and rights, HIV and AIDS, communicable and non-communicable diseases, drug and substance abuse, and healthy living. Emphasis is placed on responsible decision-making and healthy lifestyle choices.
4. Human Growth and Development
This section explores the physical, emotional, and social changes during adolescence. Topics include anatomy, physiology, sexuality, teenage pregnancy, psycho-social support systems, disability, adolescence, and stress management.
5. Child Protection
This topic focuses on child rights, responsibilities, and protection. Students learn about child abuse, exploitation, reporting structures, and relevant policies and legislation in Southern Africa and globally.
6. Career Guidance
This section aims to equip students with career planning and development skills. Topics include study skills, enterprise, individual transitional programs, guidance and counseling portfolios, interviews, and career planning. Students explore career pathways, develop decision-making skills, and gain practical experience through work-related learning. |
