Zimbabwe Form 4 Curriculum - Shona / Ndebele (Indigenous Language)
The Zimbabwean education system underwent a significant overhaul with the introduction of the Heritage-Based Curriculum Framework for 2024-2030. This framework emphasizes Zimbabwe's cultural heritage, history, and values, aiming to provide a holistic learning experience. Within this framework, Indigenous Languages, including Shona and Ndebele, are key components of the curriculum. Specifically, for Form 4 (equivalent to Grade 11), these languages are compulsory subjects alongside English, Mathematics, Combined Science, and History. Students can then choose three additional subjects.

The Shona curriculum for Form 4 focuses on enhancing listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills, as well as non-verbal communication. Several textbooks are available to support the curriculum, including:
CPS Gona ChiShona 4 Learner's Book* by Muzondo and Choga
Yeukai ChiShona Form 4* by Watadza M, Mamvosha OT, and Chiramba OT
Nhapitapi Form 4*
Ndebele
Similar to Shona, the Ndebele curriculum for Form 4 aims to develop comprehensive language skills. Resources for this curriculum include:
Asifunde IsiNdebele* (New Curriculum) textbooks

General Curriculum Framework
The Heritage-Based Curriculum Framework is built upon five pillars:
1. Programs/learning areas infrastructure
2. Staffing infrastructure
3. Physical and digital infrastructure
4. Legal and regulatory infrastructure
5. Financial infrastructure
This new curriculum represents a shift towards a more localized and culturally relevant education system in Zimbabwe. The implementation of this framework began in May 2024. Further information on the framework can be found on the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education website. |
