Zimbabwe Form 3 Family and Religious Studies Curriculum

This curriculum focuses on Christianity, Indigenous Religion, Judaism, and Islam. It aims to promote religious and moral development, understanding of family and community, appreciation of religious diversity, integration of Unhu/Ubuntu/Vumunhu, and development of national identity. The curriculum encourages critical thinking, problem-solving, and application of concepts to everyday life.

Form 3 Topics:

  • Christianity: Rites and rituals, religious practitioners, sacred places.
  • Indigenous Religion: Rites and rituals, religious practitioners, sacred places.
  • Judaism: Rites and rituals, religious practitioners, sacred places.
  • Islam: Rites and rituals, religious practitioners, sacred places.
  • Religion, Family, and Identity: Inter-dependency of families, Indigenous Religion and Zimbabwean identity.
  • Religion and Education: Religion in formal education, Indigenous Religion in informal education.
  • Religion and Gender Roles: Gender in various religions, religion and women's empowerment.
  • Religion, Ethics, Health, and Sexuality: Unhu/Ubuntu and community identity, religious beliefs, sexuality, and behavior change, religious beliefs and chronic conditions.
  • Religion and Disability: Religion and perceptions about disability, religion and marginalization of persons with disabilities.
  • Religion and the Natural Environment: Judaism and the natural environment, Islam and the natural environment.
  • Religion, Technology, and Enterprise: Religion and the use of technology.
  • Religion and the Liberation Struggle: Role of Christianity in the liberation struggle.
  • Religion, Rights, and Social Responsibility: Rights of the elderly, rights of persons with disabilities, right to freedom of worship.
  • Religion and Conflict Management: Levels of conflict (community), religious causes of conflict, role of religion in conflict management, impact of conflict.

Assessment:

The assessment model includes continuous assessment (30%) and summative assessment (70%). Continuous assessment consists of assignments, tests, and projects. Summative assessment involves two papers:

  • FRS Paper 1: Structured questions on Indigenous Religion, Judaism, Christianity, and Islam.
  • FRS Paper 2: Structured questions on Indigenous Religion, Judaism, Christianity, and Islam, with candidates choosing four questions from any section.
