Unit 3: Computer Software

Learners are taught how to alter images, add information to images, cut and paste elements between images, plan and compose video clips, download, organize, and edit video clips. The unit also introduces image editing software like GIMP and Microsoft Office Picture Manager, and video editing software like Windows Movie Maker.

Unit 4: Safety and Security

This unit focuses on computer security and data protection. Learners are taught how to install and update antivirus software, configure firewalls, and understand the importance of data protection legislation. Key concepts include firewalls, antivirus software, malware, and data protection principles.

Unit 5: World Wide Web and Online Collaboration

This unit covers internet usage and web development. Learners are taught how to use effective search terms, download educational material, use web programming software to create web pages, and design basic websites using HTML. Key concepts include advanced search techniques, web development, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and PHP.

Unit 6: ICT Careers

This unit explores career opportunities in the ICT field. Learners are introduced to various ICT roles, such as software developer, computer technician, and database administrator, and learn about their respective responsibilities and required qualifications.

Unit 7: Programming

This unit introduces learners to the basics of computer programming. It covers how computers process instructions, creating basic software programs, creating on-screen icons using text-based programming, flowcharts, and programming concepts like loops and variables. Scratch programming is also introduced.

Unit 8: Communication and Networking

This unit covers computer networks and internet services. Learners are taught how to design network cables (RJ45), configure networks, access network resources, identify types of mobile technology and network providers, access mobile network services, identify different types of internet services, and access internet services. The unit also covers setting up peer-to-peer networks.
