Zimbabwe Grade 7 Mathematics
The Zimbabwe Grade 7 Mathematics syllabus (2015-2022), designed by the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education, aims to equip learners with a strong foundation in mathematics for secondary education and beyond. The curriculum emphasizes problem-solving, data analysis, and the application of mathematical concepts to real-life situations.
Curriculum Content:
The syllabus covers four main content areas:
- Number: This section focuses on whole numbers, fractions, decimals, percentages, and their applications. Learners are expected to understand place value, perform operations with different number types, and solve problems involving number relationships. Topics include ordering and comparing numbers, factors and multiples, properties of operations, and problem-solving.
- Operations: Learners develop skills in addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and combined operations with whole numbers, fractions, decimals, and percentages. They also learn about estimation, approximation, and using appropriate degrees of accuracy.
- Measures: This area covers various measurement concepts, including length, mass, capacity, time, area, volume, and temperature. Learners develop skills in using appropriate units, converting between units, and solving problems involving measurements. They also learn about rate, speed, and other related concepts.
- Relationships: This section focuses on data handling and representation, including tables, charts, graphs, and diagrams. Learners are expected to collect, organize, represent, and interpret data. They also learn about patterns, sequences, and simple algebraic expressions.
Learning Resources:
Several textbooks and learning resources are available to support the Zimbabwe Grade 7 Mathematics curriculum. Some commonly used textbooks include:
Ventures Primary Mathematics Grade 7*
PlusOne Mathematics Grade 7*
Enjoy Mathematics Grade 7*
Additional learning resources include revision guides, practice questions, and online platforms. A mobile application, Zimsec Grade 7 Revision, provides revision questions and answers for various subjects, including mathematics. Video lessons and solved past papers are also available online.
Assessment:
Learners are assessed through continuous assessment (30%) and summative assessment (70%). Continuous assessment includes tests, assignments, projects, and profiling of soft skills. Summative assessment consists of two written papers: one with multiple-choice questions and one with structured questions. The assessment framework emphasizes knowledge, routine manipulation, understanding and application, and problem-solving skills. |
