Fun with Phonics (Phase 4)

  • Type

    Ongoing class

  • Duration

    10 classes (60 mins / class)

  • Size

    8 students / class

Julian Yon has created a course for student who have completed the first 3 phases of the Fun with Phonics course. CVC words (Consonant-Vowel-Consonant) are the first words that children learn to segment and blend. After CVC words, phonics instruction moves on to slightly more complicated patterns such as CVCC words and CCVC words. In this course, students will learn longer words with more consonant sounds. CCVC word lists help with the acquisition of English language skills. Many CCVC words include beginning consonant blends. Common beginning consonant blends include /fl/, /gl/, /sk/, /st/, and other blends in which both letter sounds can be heard.
This course will cover:
  • Teaching blending for reading CVCC and CCVC words.
  • Teaching segmenting for spelling CVCC and CCVC words.
  • Practicing reading and spelling
  • Words with adjacent consonants
  • Teaching and practicing High-Frequency Words (Fry words)
  • Practicing reading and spelling two-syllable words
  • Practicing Reading and Writing Sentences
  • Tricky Words (said, have, like, so, do, some, come, little, one, were, there, what, when, out)
  • Initial and ending consonant blends.

You can expect your child to:
  1. Read words right away without sounding them out.
