Julian Yon has created his own English course for intermediate level students. The course is designed around familiar topics and focused on the skills needed to communicate effectively in English through listening, speaking, reading and writing. The course focuses on vocabulary, grammar and functional language. The materials contain realistic everyday situations to bring learning to life. The student will be given the freedom not only to learn but also explore the language that is acquired.
Course will cover:
  • A full range of topic areas relevant to the student's life (feelings and emotions, travel and transport, holidays, music, news and media, types of TV programs, books and movies, sport, home, daily routines, weather, clothing, abilities, food)
  • Time expressions for the past/future
  • Adverbs for time, degree, manner
  • Past habits and states (used to)
  • Modals: should have, might have etc.
  • Future simple: will
  • Future: going to
  • Tenses: Present perfect continuous/Past continuous
  • Past perfect simple/Present perfect simple
  • Conditionals (first and second)
  • Passives
  • Describing experiences and events
  • Expressing hopes and ambitions
  • Describing feelings
  • Giving reasons
  • Giving opinions
  • Expressing preferences
  • Stating obligations
  • Expressing certainty
  • Describing events in the past/future
You can expect your child to:
  1. Talk about a travelling experience they have had
  2. Describe experiences, events, dreams, and ambitions, as well as opinions or plans in brief.
  3. Produce simple, connected sentences on topics, which are familiar, or of personal interest.
  4. Can get the gist of short texts on a range of topics.
  5. Can scan several short, simple texts on the same topic to find specific information.
  6. Can use linking words such as "when", "if", "that" and "because" to join clauses and sentences together.
  7. Give brief reasons for their opinions on familiar topics.
  8. Answer questions about what they have done recently in some detail Express disagreement and agreement politely, using a range of fixed expressions.
