Why Algebra?
Algebra is one of the few major domains of mathematics that students study from preschool all the way through twelfth grade. Algebra is critically important because it is often viewed as a gatekeeper to higher-level mathematics. From computer science to medicine, algebra serves as a foundational skill.
1ST class: 5th June
Polynomials & Factorization
A quick revision for Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication of Polynomials will be done as they are taught in p6.
Expansion and evaluation of algebraic expressions will be taught to have a smooth start first.
Factorization of Polynomials including quadratic and cubic polynomials will be explained in detail.
2nd Class: 12th June
Fractions, Use of basic algebraic formulae & Subject Formula
Students will learn and master the techniques for Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication and division with fractions as the fractions are not just numbers now but associated with variables.
Basic Algebraic formulas like (a + b) ², (a – b)² and a² – b² will be taught and applied in problems.
Making formula for various variables in equations.
3rd class: 19th June
Indices & Equations (Linear)
Students will learn and use various rules related to Indices and will be able to use these rules in complex problem solving. The rules for indices are mentioned in the mind map above.
Linear Equations will be solved explaining the gradient x and y intercepts.
4th Lesson: 26th June
Equations (Quadratic) & Simultaneous equations
Students will learn about quadratic equations and use three different ways to solve them.
1. Factorization
2. Quadratic Formula
3. Complete Square Method
Word problems will be solved using quadratic equations.
Students will learn about a pair of simultaneous equations and solve them both graphically and algebraically.
Word problems related to real life situations will be solved using simultaneous equations.
